Can you, in a few words, introduce us to Safran Electronics & Defense, its business as well as the NGDS product?
Safran Electronics & Defense, a Safran company, is an international company of more than 10,000 employees, who mobilize expertise and esprit de corps to design high-tech solutions in the fields of aeronautics, defense and spatial. By combining human and technological intelligence, the company develops products and services to help civil and military actors observe, decide and guide on land, at sea, in the sky and in space. And thus contribute to a safer and more sustainable world.
The NGDS (New Generation Dagaie System) contributes to security at sea by protecting surface ships against anti-ship missiles and other guided munitions. It is a 2-axis decoy launcher allowing all electronic warfare tactics to be deployed thanks to its great carrying flexibility.
As buyers, our current major challenges aim to direct our activity towards suppliers/partners who satisfy our requirements, our security and competitiveness issues, and the rules of the aeronautics, defense and spatial markets. We favor partnerships with players ready to make a long-term commitment with Safran, in a balanced and profitable relationship for both parties, all in a process of continuous progress thanks to the implementation of the good practices set out in our charter “responsible supplier relations”.
What are the current major issues with your partners? How must Safran adapt to the global geopolitical context?
Safran Electronics & Defense is adapting to the global geopolitical context by evolving its missions to be able to provide responses to the 3 major challenges of the contemporary world, which support its development strategy:
In an increasingly unpredictable world, we equip armed forces with solutions, tools and equipment guaranteeing their operational superiority. The security of civilian populations is just as crucial, our solutions seek to protect them from the risks linked to conflicts and emerging threats. By designing these technologies intended to protect soldiers and populations, we contribute to the balance of the world.
Faced with the climate challenge, our avionics skills serve the development of a low-carbon aircraft. Our innovations serving the aeronautics of tomorrow are supporting the sector towards carbon neutrality by 2050. Our commitment to serving a more electric and more connected aircraft concerns both civil and military aircraft and extends to new aerial mobility, including drones and eVTOLs.
Space has become the scene of major industrial, political and economic challenges. By providing the critical building blocks for assembling a satellite and having detailed knowledge of the space situation, we give the keys to sovereign control of space to our customers.
Safran has been working with NSE for over 20 years for integration. What are the advantages of this collaboration? Why did you choose NSE for the integration of NGDS?
The relationship between Safran Electronics & Defense and NSE is established in compliance with the Group's values, its ethical charter and regulatory requirements: consequently it is built on completely solid foundations, essential to a fruitful and successful long term collaboration.
Our suppliers are selected on the basis of high requirements in terms of performance, know-how and technological innovation. Concerning NGDS, NSE was selected as part of a Supplier Selection Commission following the criteria mentioned above.
Over the coming years, our expectations of our partner suppliers are towards the development of the areas below:
